Graphic designers are visual communicators; creating and combining words, symbols, and images to dynamically and professionally express ideas and messages. This course aims to identify and develop new and exciting talent for this ever growing communications specialism. It is designed to explore a wide range of specialisms within graphic design.

Five GCSEs at grade 4 including English You will normally take part in an interview prior to being enrolled on the programme and are advised to bring a portfolio of work to their interview in order to demonstrate their interests and abilities Where applicants do not quite meet the entry requirements, the tutor may use their discretion based on the portfolio and interview

You will study all areas of graphic design, photography and digital media including web design. You will also get the chance to develop your work through educational and gallery visits including international residential trips to cities including New York and Paris. Units of study include: Designing for the creative industry Design for print Design for advertising Digital photography and image manipulation Typography Social media applications

Your work will be assessed throughout the course, both internally and by an external moderator. At the end of each studio module you will present a folder of work for discussion and grading. The final major project is exhibited as part of the Arts Festival in June/July which is open to the public. In order to gain a full Extended Diploma you must pass all the course units.

You will require a basic personal and portable kit of materials and equipment. Your tutor will advise you on the best drawing, painting and technical equipment and eventually, the portfolio you will need.

Employment – This course can form the foundations for a range of creative occupations including Graphic Designer, Artist, Entrepreneur, Fashion Designer, Photographer and other related roles.

Education – You could progress to university, studying a variety of graphic design, art, design, fashion and crafts disciplines or other higher level qualifications such as a Higher National Diploma (HND).
